WHO ARE WE?
Chiens de Genève is a non-profit association founded by five Genevois dog owners dedicated to improving the lives of dogs, their guardians and the beutiful city of Geneva.
As dog owners, we wish to work collaboratively with our neighbours and all sectors of the community, from local businesses, local police, urban planners, and politicians, for a more inclusive and dog-friendly city.
Safe, sustainably-designed urban spaces that support social interactions - while fostering creativity, inclusion, and equality, contribute to a stronger sense of community, well-being, and overall happiness in our cities.
The contribution that well-loved, happy and healthy dogs make to our city is visible and tangible.
Happy, confident health dogs promote human connections, they naturally encourage social interaction and contribute greatly to the overall happiness of any community.
OUR MISSION
As responsible dog owners, we wish to work collaboratively with our neighbours and all sectors of the community, from local businesses, local police, urban planners, and politicians, to promote a more inclusive and dog-friendly city:
Dog-friendly urban policies should recognize the essential role dogs play in the social fabric of the city.
-
Enhance animal welfare and responsible ownership through education, awareness, promotion of best practices, and community initiatives.
-
Support meaningful engagement between dog owners, local authorities, residents and visitors to foster mutual respect and coexistence.
-
Advocate for safe accessible green spaces and infrastructure, ensuring that dogs have safe and appropriate environments within the urban landscape.
-
Collaborate with local businesses and talent to create initiatives and activities that strengthen the bond between the community and its dogs.
A significant milestone in our journey has been the acceptance by the Geneva City Council to engage with our petition to secure access to Lake Geneva for dogs, if our proposal is accepted and implemented by the Council, it would be a transformative good practice of making our city more inclusive and enhancing the well-being of both dogs and their owners.
We invite you to take a moment to review our current petition and, if it resonates with you to please sign it and share it with others.
